I think the trunk bag is great, I was looking for something similar. I like the many small pockets to store everything well and I think it looks very stylish (I have the black version). The fact that it sits on top makes it perfect for long day trips, as the weight doesn't press on one side all the time. For shorter errands such as shopping, I find them rather suboptimal, as the Velcro fasteners make it take a little longer to attach and remove them from the bike than with classic panniers. However, I usually need more storage space anyway and use the large side Valkental bags. :)
